How to Survive the Night in Zombies vs Humans
Human tactics for a timer win — conversion is the only loss that matters.
Humans do not need a montage. They need one living player when the clock hits zero. Zombies vs Humans converts you the moment you die, so every duel you take is a coin flip on the win screen. This page is Night from the Human side. Zombie hunting is how to play plus the zombie roster. The fortress you are hiding in was decided in how to build.
The video in the middle is a short Human attempt: skybase, outlines at one minute, conversion anyway. Use it as a checklist of mistakes, not a flex.
Priority list during Night
- Stay off the grass unless the fortress is already gone. Bomber Q on open ground is free damage.
- Do not 1v1 Gladiator in a hallway. 250 HP, 19 speed. Hit-and-run, then close a door.
- Listen for Cannoneer charge. If a zombie plants and stops moving, get off that wall.
- Torch the interior. Key 2 as Human. You cannot strafe a Rusher you cannot see.
- Heal on your timer, not theirs. Bloxy Cola (level 3), Hot Chocolate (7), Witches Brew (11) are why you did not spend all Money on a sword. Loadout checklist.
- At the last minute, assume you are visible. Vanilla outlines can light leftover Humans. Have a second room.
Protohog’s numbers video (embedded on the weapon tier page) names the same loop: hit, then leave, because a Gladiator is already walking toward the sound.
Matchup notes
- Bomber — wide explosion, dies on use, respawns. Do not stand stacked with two teammates on one plank. Two bombs in a closet is an instant convert.
- Rusher — fastest (walk 24 in dangler’s breakdown), weaker bomb. If you are already low, they are the finisher. Keep a gap they have to eat before Q.
- Cannoneer — structure delete from far away. Roof + extra legs. Do not repair the same wall they just ranged.
- Hunter — jump 55. Roofs and trapdoors matter. Shift+F3 ping check is a NamuWiki tip for Hunter players; as a Human, assume they can be on your roof.
- Gravedigger — pickaxe through many blocks, graves that spawn more pressure. Kill graves when you can; Spirit Orb / light-orb plays are late-game luxuries.
- Gladiator — late-night bully. Emerald Axe, Trident, or leave. Leather Armor is a suggestion, not a plan. Armor tier.
Movement that is not a script
Jump fatigue exists so you cannot bunny-hop a siege. Work with it: short jumps, doors, drop-downs, Telepearl (7), Grappling Gun (17), Elytra (50). Two-block-high pillar hops around the map let you reset aggro without building a new tower while Bombers watch.
Anti-Stuck is a Build tool (key 3). It will not save you mid-explosion. Do not waste Night panic-clicking it.
When the fortress is gone
Split. A blob of Humans on the ruins is a Cannoneer gift. One or two campers in terrain (New Frontiers biomes, caves, desert shelves) can stall the timer. Snowballs exist from level 0 as a poke, not a loadout. Bow (9) is the actual poke.
If you convert, switch brains. You are now the siege. Break remaining legs instead of chasing the one Human who is better at running than you are at Q. That conversion is how Zombies actually win, and it is why this page exists next to how to play.
Consumables and durability
Saving Grace added weapon durability. Swinging into walls for fun during Build is how your Diamond Sword feels like a stick at 2:00 Night. Repair/replace between rounds. Heals are still the Human panic button; keep one slot.
Survive the clock. Highlight clips are how you convert.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players ask after every night.
Do I have to fight to win as a Human?
No. One survivor at 0:00 is a Human win. Fighting is for Money and for clearing a Bomber already in the room.
What does the late-night outline mean?
Remaining Humans can be revealed near the end of Night. Pre-build a second hide or keep moving.
Which heal should I buy first?
Bloxy Cola at level 3. Then Hot Chocolate. See the loadout checklist.
How do I beat Gladiator?
Do not duel in a corridor. Use reach weapons from the weapon tier list or stall the timer.
