Zombies vs Humans Winter Update
Yearly snow event, Cold Open, and the achievements that permanently unlock winter kits.
The Winter Update is a yearly event, not a permanent biome swap. Community wikis date the first pass to 20 December 2024, with a return 20 December 2025 and more content expected each December. In August 2026 the live Roblox header is New Frontiers, and the Cold Open badge awards zero copies per day — the window is closed until winter comes back.
This page is the off-season manual so you do not waste a December night on the wrong hunt. Pair it with badges and the zombie roster.
What turns on in December
- Cold Open profile badge — awarded for joining during the event. You do not need a clutch Human win.
- Shop rows for Hot Chocolate, Snowballs, and Powdered Snow (snow block). Some stay permanent if you finish the matching achievement before the event ends.
- Snowballer zombie — seasonal kit; Sgt. Snowcone is the achievement that keeps it.
- Cosmetic pressure: santa hats on zombies, a rare Krampus Hunter variant in v1.3.3 notes.
Hot Chocolate is a heal in the same family as Cola. Snowballs are a projectile that can freeze. Powdered Snow is a block with event rules — treat it as extra HP on walked faces only after you understand best bases.

Empty servers will not finish Sgt. Snowcone. Comments on the How-to videos already warn that after the window, snow block farming became impossible. If you are reading this in August, you wait. If you are reading this in December, you do the hunts before you spend Tix on Gladiator.
The video in the middle is Exotermos on Snowballer + Sgt. Snowcone, including a public-server route. Letting a tagged target explode can still count — read the clip, then confirm against the live achievement text, because that interaction has been argued in comments.
How winter changes a night
Snowballs add a freeze roll (community notes around a one-third freeze chance on hit). That is extra peel for Humans and a grief tool if you hit allies. Snowballer as a zombie is a seasonal conversion kit, not a replacement for Bomber on walls. Zombie tier still ranks Cannoneer and Hunter for structure; winter is a modifier.
Do not rebuild your entire loadout around snow if the event is three weeks. Keep Emerald Axe / roof / torch. Add Hot Chocolate next to Cola. Practice the snow block in sandbox if the mode has it during the event.
Off-season status (August 2026)
Play New Frontiers maps. Farm codes and the group 100. Do not expect Cold Open to pop. Profile rarity at 0% yesterday is the calendar, not a bug. Bookmark this page for December; do not refresh it weekly in summer looking for a snow code.

Join once for Cold Open. Run populated servers for Sgt. Snowcone. Farm hits for Chill Out. Finish Below Freezing before the event listing disappears. Then go back to pillars and conversion — winter kits are extras on top of the same 5+7 minute loop.
