How to Play Zombies vs Humans

The round structure, win screens, and why one Human death flips the roster.

How to Play

Zombies vs Humans is an asymmetrical Roblox round, not a deathmatch with extra steps. Dejavu Studios split every match into a shared Build phase and a Night phase. If you treat both like free-for-all PvP you will grief your own fortress and still lose the timer.

This page is the ruleset. Mechanics deep-dives live on Humans, Zombies, and controls. New accounts should skim getting started first.

Win conditions

  • Humans win if at least one Human is alive when Night ends. Kills are optional. Hiding is legal. A coward with a torch can carry the team.
  • Zombies win only if every Human has been converted. Infinite respawns do not count as a win by themselves. If the timer hits zero with one camper left, Zombies lose.
  • Conversion is the swing mechanic. A Human who dies joins the undead for the rest of that night. Zombie death is a trip back to spawn, not a team swap.

That is why early Night looks Human-sided on the scoreboard and still feels Zombie-sided in practice. Community write-ups (Sportskeeda, NamuWiki) all underline the same math: more Humans at the start, permanent death for them, mild inconvenience for Bombers.

Build phase (5 minutes)

Everyone can place and break their blocks. You do not yet know the roster, so a player who later becomes a Zombie has every incentive to learn the weak wall — and every incentive to still help, because they might stay Human. Best practice:

  • Place public infrastructure: pillars, a roof, a torch line, a drop-down.
  • Do not seal a private 1x1 tomb unless you like exploding alone.
  • Spend Money now. Shop purchases are for the match in front of you; Saving Grace added permanent saves for progression, not for leftover cobble in your hotbar from last round.

Build keys: 1 place, 2 destroy, 3 Anti-Stuck. The long form is the build guide.

Night phase

A random subset becomes Zombies. Remaining players stay Human with swords and torches. Night length is about seven minutes on current community timers (older guides said five — believe the HUD).

Humans: survive. Fight only when a block wall still exists or when a Rusher is already in the room. Hit-and-run beats duel-to-the-death against a Gladiator. When the last minute hits, vanilla outlines can expose leftover Humans — plan a second hole before that happens. Tactics: how to survive.

Zombies: delete structure first if the fortress is still standing, then finish isolated Humans. A full HP tower with four pillars will outlast a deathmatch in the lobby grass. Roles:

  • Bomber — free, click to explode, best for walls and low-armor Humans.
  • Rusher — fastest, weaker bomb, finishes wounded targets.
  • Cannoneer — long-range structure delete, stand still to charge.
  • Hunter — jump and pressure.
  • Gravedigger — pickaxe plus graves that spawn extra pressure.
  • Gladiator — 250 HP bully for late night.

Shop, levels, and two wallets

Money buys gear and blocks. Tix buy zombies and emotes. XP unlocks shop rows. Killing Iron Armor versus Obsidian Armor pays different Money; Gladiator kills pay a lot of both. Tables live on how to get Money and level unlocks.

VIP adds 25 percent XP. It does not change win conditions.

Maps and sandbox

New Frontiers added two maps, a revamp, sandbox, and extra blocks. The loop above did not change. Sandbox is where you test a roof without a rated conversion streak on the line.

Rules that are part of “how to play”

The Roblox description is short: no exploiting, no inappropriate builds, no griefing or glitch abuse, follow Roblox ToS. Griefing a teammate’s pillar during Build is how you lose Night before it starts. Scripts are catalogued on the scripts hub with that ban attached.

Play the objective on the clock you have, not the highlight reel you wanted. Humans stall. Zombies siege. Everything else is loadout.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after every night.

Can Humans win without killing any zombies?

Yes. Survival until the timer is a Human win. Kills only buy Money and XP.

Do Zombies keep their Human gear?

No. You swap to a zombie kit. Spend Tix on variants from the zombie roster.

How many players become zombies?

A random minority at Night start. Conversion then grows the undead each Human death.

Is this the same as Creeper Chaos?

ZvH is the sequel in spirit — blocks, explosions, night siege — with its own shop, Tix, and zombie roster.
