Best Base Designs in Zombies vs Humans

Pillar forts that eat Bombers, plus the fun machines you should only build after the roof exists.

Best Base Designs

A pretty tower is not a base. In Zombies vs Humans the night deletes HP you placed, not the screenshot you liked. This page ranks base designs that still have a Human at 0:00, then the viral machines (cars, elevators, trains) that belong in sandbox until you can spare the blocks.

Pair it with the build guide for keys and economy, the armor and blocks tier for what actually soaks a Q, and how to survive for the night after the walls exist.

Three schools

Community write-ups (Fandom’s Building page, NamuWiki) keep repeating the same split:

  1. Conventional — many pillars, a walkable floor, a roof. You win by spreading HP so two Bombers cannot fold the whole house.
  2. Stealth — low profile, interior torch, drop-downs, no sky needle. Cannoneer and Hunter punish open tops; last-minute vanilla outlines still find you, so stealth is a delay, not invisibility.
  3. Obstacle — checkerboard hard blocks with gaps that abuse Jump Fatigue. Zombies stall on the lattice long enough for a bow shot or a retreat.

You can mix them. A conventional roof with an obstacle skirt is how squads last on New Frontiers highlands.

Pillar spec that survives Bombers

Fandom’s working numbers: 7–8 blocks tall, 5–6 blocks between pillars, durable blocks on the bottom half. NamuWiki prefers 3–5 blocks between and as many legs as you can afford. Both beat a three-pillar diamond needle.

Point-blank hits to break (community table):

BlockHits
Obsidian3
Diamond Block2
Iron Block2
Cobblestone / Oak Log / Wooden Planks1

Starter stack is still 75 planks, 15 oak logs, 50 cobble, 2 torches. Spend the group 100 Money on extra legs, not a gold sword. Getting started is the shopping list.

Put Iron / Diamond / Obsidian on walked faces — stairs, doorways, the first two blocks a Rusher touches. Wood is fine for the floor you stand on if the legs are already hard. A roof is mandatory once Cannoneer exists; an open penthouse is a plant.

What not to build on a rated night

  • One-spine skybase. dangler’s comments and every Bomber main agree: sky needles are the first target. If you insist, you need three or four independent pillars, not scaffolding.
  • Sealed 1x1 tombs. You will Anti-Stuck into a Q. Controls3 is for Build mistakes, not Night panic.
  • Grief Destroy on an ally door. Listed ban. Repair with 2, do not farm highlights.
  • Unanchored meme machines while the timer is under two minutes. Cars and trains eat the blocks your roof needed.

The video in the middle is DingleFart1’s cool builds reel: working car, drivable pillar base, elevator, train, swing. Treat it as a sandbox catalog. Ice blocks help trains; glass and trapdoors are light for swings. None of that replaces four oak legs and a torch.

Map-aware layouts

New Frontiers rotated biomes. Highlands already give you height — do not add a needle on a ridge. Canyons punish floor-only boxes because Cannoneer sees the top. Burning-banner towers in gallery shots look cinematic and fold like piñatas if the HP is a single core.

Sandbox exists so you can test a 5-block gap without converting a 32-player lobby. Use it. Then copy the boring version into rated Build.

Night after the base exists

Design is only half. Humans still have one life. Stay off the rim when Hunter can land. Keep a drop-down. Torch interior so you see the Q. If Gladiator walks the doorway, you do not duel — you leave. Humans and the weapon tier: Emerald Axe and Trident for hit-and-run, not a Diamond Sword highlight on the roof edge.

Zombies should delete legs first. A pretty roof with three remaining pillars is already a win path. Zombie roster.

Durability after Saving Grace

Blocks you lose to explosions are gone from the hotbar until you buy them again. That makes cheap extra legs smarter than one Obsidian trophy column. Saving Grace. Practice the layout in sandbox so you are not improvising purchases at 0:40 Build.

Recap for the next five minutes

Four to eight legs. Hard blocks low. Roof. Torch. Drop-down. No single spine. Cool machines wait for sandbox or a night you already won. If Bombers still flatten you, you needed more pillars, not a taller movie set.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after every night.

What is the best base in Zombies vs Humans?

A many-pillar roofed fort with hard blocks on walked faces. Sky needles and 1x1 tombs lose to Bombers.

How far apart should pillars be?

Community ranges run 3–6 blocks. Closer than a needle, far enough that one Q cannot delete two legs.

Are cars and elevators worth it?

In sandbox, yes. On a rated five-minute Build, only after the roof and legs exist. See the video in the middle.

Does Obsidian make a one-pillar tower safe?

No. Three point-blank hits still drop a lonely column. Spread HP. Armor and blocks.
